Highlights: a set of 19 problems to help students learn to create a coherent story in problem solving in the context of thermo and stat mech

Abstract: To develop complex problem solving skills, students need to learn to develop a coherent story about what the situation in the problem is, what the mechanism is, and what physics principles are appropriate to apply. This part of the module contains 19 problems on the topics of thermodynamics and statistical mechanics that require "telling the story" of what's happening, matching the physics to the math, and developing a solution path. Many problems have life science contexts and 3 (Insane in the membrane 1&2, Thermodynamics of life) are appropriate for groupwork in a recitation.
