Highlights: Intro physics curriculum focused on biology at the molecular and cellular level. Includes active learning, lab and computing activities.
Abstract: P@MCL was developed at Michigan State University to teach life science students the physics they will need in their advanced classes in the context of their background in biology and chemistry. The focus of the first semester is diffusion as an emergent phenomenon from elastic collisions, which is used to develop statistical mechanics. The focus of the second semester is the electric dipole, which is used to develop the interactions of light with biomolecules. The choice and order of the topics in this curriculum have been tuned to maximize student engagement with relevant biology topics.
