Highlights: How does air enter your lungs? A hands-on investigation of pressure differences guiding fluid flow.
Abstract: Section 1 of the Physics of the Respiratory System Module begins with a study of the mechanics of breathing and functioning of the lungs in the chest cavity. Students will use a physical model to actively investigate the role of pressure differences of the lung, atmosphere and pleural cavity in the mechanics of breathing. This section includes learning objectives with matched assessment questions, reading and writing in the curriculum, and a hands-on activity. Curriculum reviews and expands upon introductory physics content.
